L’Histoire de Nintendo #2

9. January 2010

Finally a book only about Nintendo’s GAME & WATCH era from 1980-1989 (from BALL until ZELDA)!  Just pitty that it’s only in french. Nevertheless get it @ editionspixnlove.fr.
Volume 1 is about the beginning of Nintendo history (1889-1980), also very interesting.
There will be Volume 3 (NES/Famicom) & 4 (Gameboy) coming soon!

MARIO BROS. GAME & WATCH MULTI SCREEN package

24. June 2007

My MARIO BROS. [MULTI SCREEN] GAME & WATCH arrived this week! The game itself is in mint condition. It came complete with box & instruction manual. But the box has many scratches and folds, so I scanned it, cleaned and reproduced it in 600 dpi. Tomorrow I’ll print the boxart and finish the package!

Luigi’s Mansion

27. May 2007

Luigi steps out from the shadow of his brother Mario and into the gloomy shadows of a very haunted house in this, his first-ever starring role. Armed with a flashlight and a customized vacuum cleaner, Luigi must rid the mansion of Boos and ghouls – and find his missing brother to boot! Luigi’s Mansion boasts everything that makes a video game great – still now the graphic looks nice. Luigi’s Mansion was released in 2001 on GameCube. Check the official website by clicking on one of those pictures:

WarioWare – SMOOTH MOVES

21. May 2007

If you’re a Nintendo otaku like me, then this game, or better these microgames are for you. Dedicated in those games are of course “Mario”, “Balloon Fight”, the Super Famicom (SNES) console, the Virtual Boy console, “R.O.B.” the robot, the “TV-Game 6″ (first PONG game console from Nintendo in 1977), Link, and many other Famicom (NES) characters. These microgames make lots of fun, especially when you have guests in your house. Look at these screenshots:

SUPER MARIO GALAXY

20. May 2007

For those, who didn’t see the trailer, shown at the 2007 Game Developers Conference during Shigeru Miyamoto’s keynote, here you go:

Can’t wait to get with Mario into space!
The release date is still unknown, but as far I know, it’ll be this year!

[ファミリーベーシックV3] FAMILY BASIC V3 Manual Translation Project

30. April 2007

ファミリーベーシックV3 Page 1

Ok, I got the manual, but I can’t read the instructions, because it’s in japanese. There isn’t any manual scan on the net, either a translation. It’s a 141 pages long manual, so don’t except that I’ll upload it soon. It would be great to get an english manual in the end. Got it? Is there anybody else interested? Or has somebody else the manual and could help scanning it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

SUPER PAPER MARIO

28. April 2007

Well, this post must have come anyway. This game has a super interesting soundtrack (Naoko Mitome & Chika Sekigawa), and what else can I tell than: Well done again Nintendo! Forever live Mario Bros. – HERE I GO!

Another FAMICLONE I’ve found in Japan

25. April 2007

Here’s another cheap Fami-Compatible clone I’ve found at a Bulldog store in Japan. It runs NTSC games as well and has AV, but isn’t compatible with the Famicom Disk System, but is smaller than the NEO-FAMI and is designed in grape-red and white Famicom colors.

ファミリーベーシック [FAMILY BASIC]

FAMILY BASIC V2

FAMILY BASIC V2
Release: 21st June 1984

FAMILY BASIC V3

FAMILY BASIC V3
Release: 21st February 1985

FAMILY BASIC was a package to allow Famicom users to program their own games in the BASIC programming language. It was accompanied by a textbook on how to write in BASIC and use the utility, as well as the Famicom Keyboard, used to write in BASIC.
A second FAMILY BASIC game (actually the third version developed – the original V1 was never released) came out with some added options. The interface was scaled down to the basics, and some premade games had been added. You could edit the games as well, giving them new sprites or backgrounds. A Tape Recorder was used to save level you make in the edit mode of Wrecking Crew, Excitebike, Mach Rider and Load Runner.

I’ve found a japanese website called “FAMILY BASIC ROOM“, where you can download the manual of V2, but it’s written in japanese. I’ve found the FAMILY BASIC V3 with manual in Japan. There are 4 games, “Heart” (you need the microphone), “Pen Pen Labyrinth” (Penguin Game), “Mario World” and “Star Killer”. I really want to learn to write BASIC. Maybe a little help from my brother? Here’s the sound I picked up from the “Heart” game, which you can try out on NesterJ or VirtualNES by typing the following code:

10 PLAY “M1V2Y1T2:M1V10Y1T2:T2″
20 PLAY “O3E3G#DGDG#DG:01#B5B#AB:R”
30 PLAY “EGO4CO3E:Y2O2#B6E3:O1C5C”
40 PLAY “#GAO4DC:F5#F:#C#C”
50 PLAY “O3B#ABO4A:F3O3DFA:D6F3″
60 PLAY “GO3AO4FO3B:E5DV15:GA#AB”
70 PLAY “#B3GT3FGE1DV12E7:C9:#B5T3GC7″

To play the code, just type RUN and you should get a little polyphonic melody from the “Heart” game. Enjoy and have fun!

Here’s the front cover of the V3:
